Courtney Overton is a pediatric speech-language pathologist that specializes in helping children master articulation and literacy skills with a play-based approach to learning.

Speech of Cake, Inc. was created to serve children in the Alexandria area. We are well-known for our award-winning summer enrichment program!

Summer Enrichment program
Mrs. Overton and Ms. Hutchison will use their collaborative team approach to address articulation, expressive language, receptive language, executive functioning, social skills, and literacy to educate and engage young minds during a summer enrichment program. This program takes place at 1301 Collingwood Road Alexandria, VA 22308.

We will meet to consult with you and learn more about your concerns. Feel free to ask any questions that come to mind! Parents will complete a case history form. In the end, we will determine if a more in-depth evaluation or therapy is warranted.

We will complete a comprehensive evaluation to determine specific areas of need. If an assessment has been completed by another agency, please submit it at your earliest convenience.
Courtney Overton, MS, CCC-SLP is a nationally certified speech-language pathologist. She is licensed in New Jersey and Virginia and has extensive experience in the public school system at the primary and secondary levels. Courtney is also an adjunct faculty member at the University of Maryland.

Courtney is currently a doctoral student in literacy, culture, and language education at Indiana University with a minor in educational leadership. She earned a master's degree in speech-language pathology at Emerson College in Boston, Massachusetts. Courtney earned a bachelor's degree in speech-language pathology, minor in linguistics, and certificate in American Sign Language at the University of Pittsburgh in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.

Courtney regularly attends the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association Convention to remain abreast on evidence-based practices in pediatric speech-language pathology. She is also a member of the International Dyslexia Association, International Literacy Association, Fairfax County Speech-Language Pathologists Association, the National Black Association for Speech-Language and Hearing, and the Pearl and Ivy Educational Foundation, Inc. Courtney is trained in Tethered Oral Tissues, Tongue Tips, Thumbs Up!, Story Grammar Marker, Social Thinking, Reading Mastery, Corrective Reading, Read Well, Language, FUNdations, Qualitative Reading Inventory, Dyslexia Fundamentals, The Logic of English, and Unstuck and On Target. She specializes in evaluating, diagnosing, and treating orofacial myofunctional disorders, articulation disorders, phonological disorders, stuttering, developmental delays, reading/writing disabilities, language disorders, and social skills. Courtney was recently honored as a Top Healthcare Provider in Alexandria!

Leigh Hutchison, M.Ed., is a Virginia state-certified Special Education teacher. She completed her graduate studies at George Mason University in Fairfax, Virginia to earn a master’s degree in Special Education. Leigh earned a bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education at the University of South Carolina. She began teaching as a first-grade teacher at an international school in Brussels, Belgium. Leigh then moved to Virginia and taught as a second-grade teacher in a public school. After a few years as a general education teacher, she decided to become a special education teacher.
