Brandy Windham, M.A., CCC-SLP
Speech and Language Therapy and Aba Therapy in One Location
Building BLOCS
Building BLOCS serves children with autism and other language, behavior, and learning needs in the greater austin area. Challenging behaviors often arise because children lack the ability to communicate. At Building BLOCS, the behavior therapist and language therapist collaborate on goals and methods, realizing that each of these areas is dependent on and contributes to the other. Also, ABA therapy (Applied Behavior Analysis) and speech therapy are sought for most children with autism. It makes sense to house the two in one location.
Our purpose is to help children learn the communication, behavioral, and social skills necessary to reach their full potential. As an interdisciplinary team, we will meet the individual needs of each child and his family in a supportive and nurturing environment. We believe that a child’s language, behavior, social cognition, and sensory needs work in concert, and by integrating our therapies and approaches, we can make the greatest impact.
Education/Training
Brandy studied at the University of Texas at Austin for undergraduate and graduate coursework. She graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in English and a Master’s Degree in Communication Sciences and Disorders and holds a Certificate of Clinical Competence (CCC-SLP) from the American Speech Language and Hearing Association (ASHA).
Bio
After working in a variety of specialized classrooms in the public schools, Brandy decided to specialize and work primarily with children with autism--working in self-contained and inclusion classrooms in the public school system as well as in several private clinics in the Austin area. The public school classrooms were based on ABA principles, and Brandy learned to collaborate with the teachers and incorporate ABA teaching styles in her own language therapy.
In addition to traditional speech therapy, Brandy has led several types of groups, including mommy/daddy and me, social thinking, and play groups. She has clinical expertise in assessment and treatment of language delay and disorders; communication therapy for children with autism and training for their families and the professionals who work with them; assessment and treatment of fluency, articulation, and voice disorders; programming and implementation of voice output devices.
