Speech Specialists is dedicated to providing speech therapy integrating the most up-to-date treatment techniques with a holistic approach. We believe that everyone should be guaranteed the opportunity to develop their communication skills to their full potential. Our comprehensive programs are designed to meet the individual needs of both children and adults.
For children, we emphasizes family involvement and education and believe that considering the child’s family life, home and school environments, self-esteem and emotional development is vital for effective treatment. We specialize in: articulation disorders, expressive and receptive language disorders, stuttering, phonological disorders, developmental delays, autism spectrum disorders and voice disorders.
For adults, we provide fluency therapy, speech therapy, communication training and accent modification services. Our clients often come to us when they have difficulty communicating with their peers, customers, patients, or families. We provide individual or group sessions.
Bio
Dawn Wilson, M.S., CCC-SLP is the founder of Speech Specialists, LLC and a nationally certified speech-language pathologist. She holds the Certificate of Clinical Competence from the American Speech and Hearing Association and is licensed by the State of Wisconsin and the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction. Dawn is a member of the American Speech and Hearing Association and the Corporate Speech Pathology Network.
She obtained a Bachelor of Arts in Speech and Hearing Science from the University of Iowa and a Master of Science in Communication Sciences and Disorders from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. Dawn has also worked as a clinical instructor at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee.
Dawn has extensive experience working in early-childhood and school settings, where she provided service to children with a wide range of speech, language, and communication difficulties. She has also worked with individuals with communication disorders such as autism, Asperger’s syndrome, cerebral palsy, and Down’s syndrome. Some of Dawn’s trainings include PECS (Picture Exchange Communication System), PROMPT, and TEACCH (Treatment and Education of Autistic and related Communication-handicapped CHildren).
Dawn is also experienced in working with adults with a variety of communication needs. She specializes in fluency and regional and foreign accent modification. She is certified by the Institute of Language and Phonology to provide foreign accent reduction training utilizing the Compton Pronouncing English as a Second Language (P-ESL) program.
In 2007, Dawn founded Speech Specialists, LLC. She continues to use her expertise to provide private therapy to her clients while maintaining her busy practice.
