Bio
My name is Katherine Hindman, or "Miss Kathy" to my young friends and students! I am the founder and owner of Connections Speech Therapy. A Midwestern transplant to New Jersey, I grew up and attended school in the heart of Ohio. After earning my Master's Degree in 1995, I moved to NJ with my husband to begin my first job as a Speech Language Pathologist. My family provided many role models that work in the helping professions, including special educators and teachers, nurses, and counselors. My parents were also foster parents and instilled in me an early understanding that every child has a voice and deserves to be heard. I continue to be guided and motivated by that passion to help nurture a child's desire to connect with others and be empowered to express themselves. I truly love what I do!

I have over twenty years of experience that includes evaluating and treating children and young adults in a variety of settings: from working several years in an intensive behavioral-based program for students with autism and developmental disabilities, to working for local preschool programs and elementary schools, to spending many years working in Early Intervention with infants, toddlers, and preschoolers with various delays and challenges in all areas of development. I have been fortunate to collaborate with some talented multidisciplinary teams, including occupational therapists, physical therapists and educators and have learned the value of implementing sensory techniques to make learning fun, creative, and ultimately more successful. By helping a child to organize, integrate, and use sensory input from his body and the surrounding environment, I establish a more focused attention and mutual trust and am able to build a child's confidence and address those factors that may be interfering with communication.

I know and appreciate a parent's desire to understand your child's needs and to help him to succeed. My practice was created in order to provide a warm and caring family-centered model of service delivery to share with parents the knowledge and tools to help their children develop and grow. I have raised a son and daughter who are fraternal twins and are beginning to find their own passions as young adults. I am committed to putting the same dedication and passion that I put into raising them into developing my practice to become a growing business that provides exceptional service to you and my community!
