Bio
Yvette graduated from San Jose State University with her Master's Degree in Speech-Language Pathology. Yvette is a member of the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association and has a Certificate of Clinical Competence in Speech-Language Pathology. After more than 20 years in San Jose, California, she moved to the Central Coast in 2003 with her husband, Michael, to enjoy the "SLO Life." Yvette is experienced in the evaluation and remediation of impaired communication, cognition, pragmatics, voice and swallowing, with a specific passion - working with adolescents and adults. Yvette is a certified Vital Stim. provider, a therapeutic intervention for the management of dysphagia (difficulty swallowing). Vital Stim. is the only neuromuscular electrical stimulation device that is cleared by the FDA to treat dysphagia. Yvette also holds a certification in Lee Silverman Voice Therapy (LSVT), for Parkinson's disease and an Interactive Metronome certification for improving synchronization in the brain. Recently, Beyond Speech Therapy has added Biofeedback and Neurofeedback therapy to the practice. Yvette also has her certificate for Mindfulness Training. Yvette has many years of experience performing Modified Barium Swallow Studies, which is an exam to assess a persons' swallow function. She has provided services in variety of settings including: Hospitals, private practice clinics, outpatient rehabilitation clinics, home-health care, and skilled nursing facilities. Yvette has supervised several students during their externships and clinical fellowships. Yvette has enjoyed providing community education for local caregiver support groups and in-service training in every setting where she has been employed.
Currently, Yvette is employed by April Nolan, owner, at Beyond Speech Therapy. Yvette states, "Helping others is my life's privilege."
