Patient driven adult speech therapy practice.
My mission in my speech therapy practice is to make sure my patients and families are getting the help they need. While working in a skilled nursing facility I often had patients discharge that continued to need speech therapy services but were sent home once they were discharged by occupation and physical therapy teams. I want to provide speech therapy services for those patients that continue to want to improve after they have returned home or after a move to a care facility. I focus on executive function skills and cognitive concerns as the basis for my care plan as everything relates back to the brain. I also see a need in my community for dementia services and hospice evaluations. My mission is to help patients continue to improve after a diagnosis of acquired brain injury, neurodegenerative disease, dementia/Alzheimer’s and executive function issues. The brain is incredible and research demonstrates that patients can continue to make progress towards their goals even if they are diagnosed with a chronic condition. I want to help patients with chronic aphasia that are motivated to continue to work directly on language skills. In the area of dementia my goal is to increase prevention, assessment and treatment services in my community of Colorado Springs. Research shows that addressing working memory helps language use in people with dementia.
