A Mile High Speech Therapy specializes in motor speech disorders, particularly in Childhood Apraxia of Speech (CAS). Our SLP’s have considerable experience with differential diagnosis and treatment for childhood speech and language disorders. We have experience treating apraxia within co-occurring conditions including:

Down Syndrome,
Cerebral Palsy
Fragile X Syndrome
Treatment plans and recommendations are thoughtfully and carefully planned by Laura Smith and therapy expertly executed by both herself and Meredith Walsh, her colleague on staff. They both love the amazing experience of helping a child a child speaks after being nonverbal for so long. Helping children find their voices is the most rewarding job on the planet.
Education/Training
Laura earned her undergraduate degree here in the city at Metro University in 2003. In 2008 she completed her post bachelor degree at the University of Northern Colorado for Speech/Language Pathology.

Bio
Laura Baskall Smith founded A Mile High Speech Therapy three years after her own daughter was diagnosed with Childhood Apraxia of Speech. Laura is Apraxia-Kids recognized for advanced training and clinical expertise in CAS, is PROMPT trained, and has been trained in the K-SLP.
Prior to working at AMHST, she worked for Denver Public Schools for 10 years and the Cherry Creek School District for 4 years.
Laura is an active member of the charity Apraxia-Kids and is deeply involved in the Denver Apraxia Community. Her mission is for all children who struggle to speak have access to caring professionals who not only treat the child with expert skills, but also provide support for the family.
Laura manages the corresponding social media pages. In 2016 she won the ASHA media award for bringing apraxia awareness to the mainstream media through her encounter with WWE fighter Ronda Rousey. She also won the ASHA ACE award for continuing education in the field of Speech/Language Pathology.
