Creative and caring speech therapy for children.
Welcome! I'm Janice Blaifeder, a nationally certified pediatric speech-language pathologist in Wayne, New Jersey. I believe that family involvement, a fun, caring and engaging approach as well as cutting edge therapies have been the cornerstones of my success with so many families over the years. By using these approaches within a natural environment, I have garnered a reputation of excellence in the field by educators and parents alike. My areas of specialization include: Autism, Asperger's, Apraxia, ADD, Dysarthria, Articulation and Phonological Disorders, Stuttering, Delayed Expressive and Receptive Language, Oral Motor, Oral Placement, Feeding, and Sensory issues.
Bio
I am a nationally certified, New Jersey licensed Speech-Language Pathologist. I have over 25 years experience helping children with a wide range of diagnoses including Autism, Apraxia, Articulation and Phonological Disorders, Cleft / VPI, Delayed Expressive & Receptive Language, Oral Motor and Sensory Processing difficulties.
I have been married to my husband, Lenny for 25 years and we have three wonderful boys who themselves presented with a variety of special needs and developmental issues. While I am grateful that they are doing well in college, I will never forget what I went through as a parent, fighting to see my children receive the best possible services and doing everything possible to help them reach their maximum potential.
I feel that raising my boys has helped me become a better speech pathologist. It has helped me become more sensitive to the needs of the entire family unit, not just the child I am treating. This is one of the reasons why I see the majority of my children in their homes. Not only do I feel that it's important to treat the child in a friendly and nurturing environment, but it also allows me to better assess the entire situation. This includes training family members on how they can best contribute to positive outcomes for their child.
I received my B.S. and M.S degrees from Queens College and Adelphi University respectively. During the course of my continuing education I have received PROMPT training as well as training from Nancy Kaufman, Pam Marshala, Sara Rosenfeld Johnson and Stanley Greenspan. These people represent some of the best that the field has to offer. I am also proud to have contributed to the next generation of speech-language pathologists through my past work at The Demonstration Program at Montclair State University where I supervised graduate students.
In addition to providing direct speech therapy, I offer workshops to parents, teachers and community groups on fostering speech, language and play skills in young children.
