Speech Language Pathologist
Lapsa Speech Language Center, a private speech therapy practice in Frederick, Maryland, provides research based speech and language therapy.
The center offers evaluations and treatments for a full range of speech and language disorders from early childhood through the high school years and beyond. Utilizing cutting-edge technology, intervention is tailored to meet each client's interests and unique needs.
The goal of the center is for each client to develop successful communication for life. In collaboration with family members, health professionals and/or educators, the Center will maximize each client's strengths and guide them to overcome their communication challenges.
Services are provided at both the office and private school settings.
Education/Training
Maureen holds a Certificate of Clinical Competence in Speech Language Pathology (CCC-SLP) from the American Speech Language Hearing Association, and a state license in Maryland. She is a member of the Maryland Speech Language Hearing Association and sits on the Board of Directors as the Pediatric Chair.
Bio
Maureen Lapsa graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing from the University of Maryland. After working as a pediatric cardiac nurse at Children's Hospital National Medical Center and teaching in the Nursing Program at Frederick Community College, she returned to school; she received a Master's of Science degree in Speech Language Pathology from Loyola University Baltimore.
Maureen has experience working with both children and adults with motor speech, receptive/expressive language, fluency, auditory processing, executive function and voice disorders. She incorporates her clinical experiences as well as techniques from continuing education courses into her daily treatments with her clients. She utilizes methods such as PROMPT, Sarah Ward Executive Function practices, Social Thinking, Lidcombe Stuttering Program, Visualizing and Verbalizing, and the EmPower writing program among others. Although Maureen is fascinated by all dimensions of speech and language, she is extremely interested in apraxia, cognitive development and executive function, post-concussion syndrome, literacy and written expression.
