Education
I earned my B.A. in 1970 and M.A. in 1971, both in Speech-Language Pathology with a minor in psychology. I trained for 3 years at UCLA in their Adult Stuttering Clinic and also worked with a neuropathologist at a hospital doing human brain autopsies one afternoon a week for 3 years. I began my Ph.D. education and training at the University of Iowa (the top-rated school in the country for speech-language pathology) in 1973 and completed my doctorate in 1976, again minoring in psychology. I have had extensive continuing education since that time in a variety of areas.
Bio
I have been a speech-language pathologist since 1971 when I earned my M.A. degree, after which I worked for two years with brain damaged adolescents (vehicle accidents, gunshot wounds, beatings, . . .). I earned my Ph.D. at the University of Iowa in 1976 and taught at West Virginia University until 1979 when I moved my family to Stockton, CA and I began teaching at the University of the Pacific. Overall, I taught for 35 years teaching primarily graduate courses in neurology and neurological disorders, voice disorders, cleft lip and palate, and counseling skills for speech-language pathologists. I was honored with the title of Professor Emeritus upon my retirement in 2012.

I have maintained a private practice since 1981, working primarily with adult and pediatric neurological disorders, stuttering, and voice disorders. I see most clients in their homes. I also have authored or coauthored 5 textbooks and 4 therapy manuals that are used in hospitals and clinics throughout the U.S. and other countries. I have made over 100 presentations/seminars/workshops throughout the U.S. and in several other countries.
