Speech, Language & Literacy Disorders
Language, Reading, Writing, and Spelling
I am a communication specialist for the child. Language is speaking, listening, reading, and writing so I work on all of those components. Whether your child is struggling to understand directions, produce mature sentences for his age, decode multi-syllabic words, blend letter sounds, or use age-appropriate spelling all of these areas are part of my training and my scope of practice. I am trained in an Orton Gillingham approach known as SMARTER Intervention, but I also use materials from well-known reading researchers such as Dr. Kirkpatrick.
If you child is struggling with academics in school, he or she may have an underlying language or literacy impairment. I have spent over 5 years working with children ages 1-18 but I have spent the most time in schools working with students who have language and learning disabilities. I love supporting these students and helping them succeed. I love advocating for them in the school system. I am also a lifelong learner and will always keep up to date on the latest evidence and effective interventions.
