Kristen Bowling has over 12 years of experience working as a licensed speech-language pathologist with children of all ages and adults in private practice, early intervention, public & private school and hospital settings. Areas of her practice include articulation, phonology, language, hearing impairment, fluency, voice and social language. She has gained extensive experience with infant, preschool and school-age populations while working for Early Childhood Intervention and Prosper ISD. She completed both her undergraduate and graduate studies at Texas Woman's University in Denton, Texas. In 2002, Kristen earned her Master's degree in Speech-Language Pathology and Communication Sciences. She is licensed through the State of Texas and holds a Certificate of Clinical Competence from the American Speech Language Hearing Association (ASHA).

Kristen is the owner and operator of Speech Therapy of Prosper which opened it's doors in the spring of 2015. Her motivation was to be able to serve each client better by addressing their individual needs and keeping caregivers involved in continuous progress. Empowering and coaching parents is an extraordinary boost in the success of each client.

STOP provides individualized therapy based on each client's communication disorder and therapy goals. Therapy is typically a 30-45 minute session 1 or 2 times per week targeting up to 5 goals based on results of evaluation. Duration of therapy is dependent on patient’s progress on goals and follow through on home program materials. Each client is different and the duration of treatment cannot be predicted. Dismissal from therapy is based on client progress and mastery of skill potential. Therapy can also be conducted in a group setting when appropriate.

Bio:

Before becoming an SLP, I taught at the high school level for several years. During that time I had the privilege of teaching a student that had a profound hearing impairment and used cochlear implants to hear. Through her, I learned about the profession of speech-language pathology and its impact on the lives of those with communication challenges. I was completely fascinated! After great contemplation, I took a leap of faith and closed the chapter of my short-lived teaching career to pursue a degree in speech language pathology. Weeks following completion of my course work and graduation, my first child was born. While settling into motherhood and beginning my new career, I found out that my son was profoundly deaf. Although extremely devastating, I felt as though I had unknowingly been prepared for such a life event as it seemed it had come full circle. My son, 12 years later, is now able to hear and more importantly communicate with the use of cochlear implants, many years of speech therapy, hard work and persistence. This experience has given me a unique perspective as both a parent and a professional. My personal experiences make helping children become the best communicators possible a passion. It is always an honor and privilege to be a part of their success.

After working in the public system, Kristen realized that there were a lot of children both preschool and school age that did not qualify for speech therapy services because the impairment or differences were not considered severe enough to impact their education. However, from a therapist perspective, Kristen felt strongly that many of those that did not qualify at the school level would certainly benefit and excel with individualized, private therapy instead of not receiving therapy at all. She could no longer let these children slip through the cracks and decided to open her own practice. Kristen is now the owner and operator of Speech Therapy of Prosper which opened it's doors in the spring of 2015. Her motivation was to serve each client better by addressing their individual needs and keeping caregivers involved in continuous progress. Empowering and coaching parents is an extraordinary boost in the success of each client. As SToP continues to grow, the dream of positively impacting those with communication needs is continually being realized.
