Bio:

Mary Kay Yates, M.S., CCC-SLP, owner of Talk Teachers Therapy, has been providing speech and language intervention since 1985 in both educational and private settings. She earned her M.S. in Communication Sciences and Disorders from James Madison University. Mary Kay is licensed by the Commonwealth of Virginia Department of Health Professions and holds her Certificate of Clinical Competence from the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association. Although her ultimate goal is verbal communication, Mary Kay uses motivation to teach children to use many different modes of communication, such as sign, PECS (Pictures Exchange Communication System), graphics, and other augmentative communication devices. She is passionate about helping parents improve their child's communication skills by encouraging them to observe and learn to implement the techniques in all environments. Mary Kay also understands the importance of consultation/collaboration with caregivers, teachers and other therapists. She utilizes sensory integration and stimulation in her therapy sessions. All children can make progress through what she calls, "The 3 S's: Safety, Security and Success".
