Parents of children with a speech/articulation concern: -Are you feeling frustrated because you can not understand your child when he speaks? -Is your child also frustrated because he doesn't feel understood and can't clearly express what he wants? -Has another professional told you that your child will outgrow his speech problem, but it doesn't seem to be getting better? -Is your child becoming more withdrawn because he knows he can't say certain words correctly? -Is your child 8 yrs old or older and still can't say R, S, TH, or L words? -Are other kids starting to notice that your child speaks differently? -Do you have to interpret your child's speech to other people?
Adults: Do you have a regional or foreign accent that you would like to change? Are you feeling insecure at work or in social situations because of the way you talk? Do you always have to repeat yourself? Do you have difficulties being understood over the phone? Do you shy away from group talks or meetings because of the way you talk? Do you let other people talk for you at work or social gatherings? Do you feel your accent or enunciation skills get in the way at work or in social settings?
To my potential clients, if you can relate to any or all of the above, I am here to help. Clear communication is essential to all of our relationships, both personal and professional. You don't necessarily have to be the greatest orator like Winston Churchill or John F. Kennedy. But it would be pretty great to be articulate just like them, but on a smaller scale within your tribe or community.
Sessions are via tele-therapy only. I am licensed to practice in Colorado and California. So if you are located in these states, feel free to reach out.
I offer free 20 minute consultations and we can chat it up and get those questions answered. |

Bio: |
I never realized how unique it was to be born and raised in Hawaii. I remember thinking the whole world must have looked like paradise. I was surrounded by lush moutains and valleys. I was greeted by a gorgeous ocean sunrise every morning, and I ended my days feasting my eyes on the moon as it illuminated the Pacific Ocean.
The culture of Hawaii is unlike any other state in the nation. Diversity was the norm. Besides its native Hawaiian people, Hawaii's locals include people with roots from Asia, the Pacific rim, the continental U.S and more.. Then, add to that thousands of tourists at any given time, and you are now surrounded by a true melting pot of people.
Growing up, I had a fascination with the art of communication and hearing everyone speak in different languages, dialects and accents. It was simply beautiful to be immersed in it.
Fast forward throughout my education, I found myself loving my speech classes, linguistics, and the mechanics of speaking.
So here I am today with 20 years of experience as a speech therapist, working to help both children and adults alike work on using clear and precise articulation skills. I want my clients to be listener-friendly so that they are understood from the get go. Make your message by heard right away. It's disheartening when you are asked to repeat yourself often or when people just smile awkwardly pretending they knew what you said.
As a child, I was already highly aware of the difficulties that occur when 2 people converse with each other in English especially when a foreign or regiona accent got it the way. I was also acutely aware of children and adults who presented with a speech impediment, and I alway wanted to sit with them and help them work through it.
My grandmother spoke broken English. I remember assisting her on her routine trips to the market to help ensure that those transactions occurred without a hitch. I wanted her to be understood so she could share her wonderful presence to those she interacted with on a daily basis. I want to do the same for clients.
I enjoy working with clients who want to improve their speech intelligibility skills. Whether it's a child who needs help with an articulation delay/disorder or an adult needing accent modification training, I can help you.
I offer a free 20 minute consultations to answer any of your speech related questions and to see if we are a good fit for each other. I look forward to working with you. |
