Anna Rooney is a dedicated, experienced, knowledgeable licensed speech language pathologist who provides in-home or in-daycare speech therapy. She provides speech therapy for infants, toddlers, and children who have a wide variety of speech-language needs. She works primarily on the north side of Chicago. She is an early intervention specialist who is committed to helping young children become successful communicators. Anna is Hanen® certified so parents play a very important role in speech language therapy.  She partners with parents to encourage communication development. Anna’s specialty areas include early childhood speech-language development (early intervention speech-language therapy), expressive and receptive language delays/disorders (difficulty understanding and using language), childhood apraxia of speech (difficulty planning and coordinating/sequencing the movements for speech), auditory processing difficulties (difficulty making sense of what is heard), social communication delays (pragmatics): difficulty using language to communicate effectively with others (e.g., initiating and maintaining conversation, interacting with peers, maintaining eye contact/ attention, and responding to others), articulation (individual speech sound errors) and phonological disorders (multiple speech sound errors), stuttering disorders in the early childhood population, and promoting literacy development by improving phonological awareness: this includes the ability to notice, think about, or manipulate sounds in language.
Education/Training
Anna Rooney, MHS, SLP-CCC/L, is a licensed speech language pathologist who holds her Certificate of Clinical Competence from the American Speech Language Hearing Association. She holds a Master of Health Sciences Degree from Governors State University. Anna is also an early intervention specialist; she is a credentialed provider through the Illinois Early Intervention Program. Anna is certified in It Takes Two To Talk® by The Hanen Program®.
Bio
Anna’s therapeutic approach is family-centered and supportive. She is Hanen® certified so she creates a partnership with parents. Parents play an important role in speech language therapy.She addresses the needs and priorities of family members and caregivers. She collaborates with other professionals (teachers, therapists, doctors, etc…) to better meet the developmental needs of the child. Since each child understands and uses language differently, she uses multi-sensory strategies. She uses visual, tactile, auditory, and kinesthetic cues to help children acquire speech and language skills. Anna emphasizes social emotional development. Anna uses a warm, nurturing approach that encourages children to feel positive about themselves.
