Brain Training and Speech-Language Pathology Services The Brain Trainer works with clients as early as preschool, all the way to seniors. We believe that EVERYONE can have a better brain, regardless of their age. Our clients consist of school aged children who are struggling in the areas of math and reading or those who are excelling in school and want to be pushed to the next level. Clients who have an ADD/ADHD, Autism, Aspergers, Dyslexia or a speech and language diagnosis will also make huge changes while enrolled in one of our customized programs. Our adult clients include those who want to gain a competitive edge at work or stay sharp in retirement. We also serve adults with ADD/ ADHD, dyslexia or following a stroke or brain injury. The process begins with an assessment, administered by our director, Vicki Parker, Ph.D., to determine a client’s strengths and weaknesses. After the assessment, she will design, a customized training program. Clients will then begin to work with their own personal brain trainer, to strengthen weak cognitive skill areas. This is not tutoring —it is training that actually improves the brain from now and for years to come. The customized programs will be filled with activities and tasks that feel like games. We provide diagnostic evaluations and therapy intervention that are personalized to the individual client using various assessment/evaluative tools for ages 18 months to 18 years. These assessments are scheduled based on child’s age, communication difficulties, and taking into consideration past evaluations. The length of our evaluations is between one to three hours and can be scheduled for one to two sessions depending on age and attention factors. Our talented and caring speech-language pathologists are dedicated to working collaboratively with family members to ensure their children learn and progress to their full communicative potential.

I've been practicing speech therapy in neurogenics for over 17 years and specialize in aphasia therapy. I work with patients via teletherapy specializing in aphasia, apraxia and dysarthria. I accept medicare and secondary plans. I maintain a small caseload and am devoted to the recovery and support of my patients interests and personal goals. I am the author of the Speech Therapy Aphasia Rehabilitation Workbook series, co-author of Aphasia Recovery Connection’s Guide for People with Aphasia, and co-author of Carotid and Vertebral Artery Dissection: A Guide for Survivors and Their Loved Ones. I am a certified accent modification specialist. I see clients at various locations in the Triad of North Carolina and online using Zoom meetings. I use the Compton PESL program as my training base and borrow from other successful programs as well. Clients are seen biweekly and complete daily homework practice. The online practice program of the Compton PESL allows me to provide real-time feedback to my client at least 6 times between sessions. In addition, I often create special recorded homework material that is geared to an individual's unique needs.
