Services: ** TELETHERAPY AVAILABLE ** LSVT-LOUD (Speech treatment for Parkinson's Disease patients):We provide evaluation and treatment for Parkinson’s Disease related communication deficits. Parkinson’s Disease and other neurological deficits often cause faulty feedback to the brain which can result in communication that is too soft, mumbled, monotone or hoarse. Because of this, patients with Parkinson's Disease can often be difficult to understand. Our LSVT-LOUD treatment teaches Parkinson’s Disease patients techniques to improve their communication ability and perception of appropriate loudness. Dysphagia – Patients with dysphagia have difficulty swallowing and may experience pain while swallowing, making it difficult to eat. Dysphagia is caused by weak muscles in the mouth and throat and is often a result of a stroke, multiple sclerosis, Parkinson’s disease or Alzheimer’s disease. Aphasia – Aphasia causes patients to have difficulty reading, speaking, listening and writing. Aphasia is caused by damage to parts of the brain that are responsible for language. Apraxia – Patients with apraxia have difficulty speaking what he/she wants to speak. Apraxia can occur in two forms. Patients can be born with the disorder or it can develop from a stroke or head injury. Dysarthria – Patients with dysarthria may have slurred speech, a slow or rapid rate of speech, abnormal rhythm when speaking or difficulty chewing and swallowing. Dysarthria can develop from a stroke or head injury. Stuttering – Stuttering is a communication disorder that causes difficulty in fluency of speech. This includes involuntary repetitions of words, parts of words or sounds. Stuttering is also referred to as stammering. Dementia – Dementia is related to memory loss. A speech-language pathologist can help patients with dementia by using strategies to help preserve communications and cognitive function.

The Speech Niche
Speech Therapy & Accent Reduction/Modification
Parents of children with a speech/articulation concern: -Are you feeling frustrated because you can not understand your child when he speaks? -Is your child also frustrated because he doesn't feel understood and can't clearly express what he wants? -Has another professional told you that your child will outgrow his speech problem, but it doesn't seem to be getting better? -Is your child becoming more withdrawn because he knows he can't say certain words correctly? -Is your child 8 yrs old or older and still can't say R, S, TH, or L words? -Are other kids starting to notice that your child speaks differently? -Do you have to interpret your child's speech to other people? Adults: Do you have a regional or foreign accent that you would like to change? Are you feeling insecure at work or in social situations because of the way you talk? Do you always have to repeat yourself? Do you have difficulties being understood over the phone? Do you shy away from group talks or meetings because of the way you talk? Do you let other people talk for you at work or social gatherings? Do you feel your accent or enunciation skills get in the way at work or in social settings? To my potential clients, if you can relate to any or all of the above, I am here to help. Clear communication is essential to all of our relationships, both personal and professional. You don't necessarily have to be the greatest orator like Winston Churchill or John F. Kennedy. But it would be pretty great to be articulate just like them, but on a smaller scale within your tribe or community. Sessions are via tele-therapy only. I am licensed to practice in Colorado and California. So if you are located in these states, feel free to reach out. I offer free 20 minute consultations and we can chat it up and get those questions answered.

Neurofeedback is direct training of brain function, by which the brain learns to function more efficiently. We observe the brain in action from moment to moment. We show that information back to the person. And we reward the brain for changing its own activity to more appropriate patterns. This is a gradual learning process. It applies to any aspect of brain function that we can measure. Neurofeedback is also called EEG Biofeedback, because it is based on electrical brain activity, the electroencephalogram, or EEG. Neurofeedback is training in self-regulation. It is simply biofeedback applied to the brain directly. Self-regulation is a necessary part of good brain function. Self-regulation training allows the system (the central nervous system) to function better. Neurofeedback addresses problems of brain dis-regulation. Paediatric Speech Therapist
I have been practicing as an SLP for four years. I have extensive experience in working with children who have receptive and expressive language disorders, motor speech disorders, and speech sound disorders. I've also had success stories with stammering in teenagers. I currently work in an ICU setting as a dysphagia specialist. I'm responsible for screening and evaluating post stroke and intubated patients for aphasia, Dysarthria and dysphagia. In my clinical practice, the one thing I've seen play itself out is empathy. No matter how many techniques and therapeutic intervention one knows or is experienced in, it is the human experience and sensibility that matters in the end. My sole reason for making a profile here is because I miss working with children. I don't take many patients, because it affects the quality of therapy and effort that a therapist puts in. If you have any queries, do not hesitate to get in touch. I like to take my time in getting to know the patient/client in all aspects and then proceed with an individualised plan.

Holistic Aphasia Treatment for Improved Wellbeing
Katie Cassady, MA, CCC-SLP, CBIS, C-IAYT is a Certified Yoga Therapist and Brain Injury Specialist with nearly 20 years of experience treating neurologic disorders as a speech pathologist. Having spent the last five years treating persons with aphasia in the context of an intensive aphasia therapy program, Katie found herself inspired to develop a unique offering that fills a gap often experienced by persons with aphasia and their loved ones. Mental health and coping support is limited for a population that struggles with verbal communication, and while speech pathologists are encouraged to provide counseling within their sessions, patients often feel the pressure to work solely on language during speech therapy. Additionally, SLPs may not feel equipped to address things like grief, anger, depression, and anxiety as they relate to their patients’ language disorders. Embody Language Yoga Therapy is a bridge that supports aphasia recovery through practices and interventions beyond language therapy with a focus on reconnecting to self and finding peace in the present, with the potential added side effect of improved access to language. Offering private yoga therapy sessions in addition to virtual yoga-infused aphasia support groups.
