Parkinson’s Disease and other neurological deficits often cause faulty feedback to the brain which can result in communication that is too soft, mumbled, monotone or hoarse. Because of this, patients with Parkinson's Disease can often be difficult to understand. Our LSVT-LOUD treatment teaches Parkinson’s Disease patients techniques to improve their communication ability and perception of appropriate loudness. Dysphagia – Patients with dysphagia have difficulty swallowing and may experience pain while swallowing, making it difficult to eat. Dysphagia is caused by weak muscles in the mouth and throat and is often a result of a stroke, multiple sclerosis, Parkinson’s disease or Alzheimer’s disease. Aphasia – Aphasia causes patients to have difficulty reading, speaking, listening and writing. Aphasia is caused by damage to parts of the brain that are responsible for language. Patients can be born with the disorder or it can develop from a stroke or head injury. This includes involuntary repetitions of words, parts of words or sounds. Stuttering is also referred to as stammering. Dementia – Dementia is related to memory loss. My name is Mark Higginson. My wife and I are both speech therapists, and natives of Tucson, Arizona (and our office is right by an Eegees!). Brain Training and Speech-Language Pathology Services The Brain Trainer works with clients as early as preschool, all the way to seniors. We believe that EVERYONE can have a better brain, regardless of their age. Our clients consist of school aged children who are struggling in the areas of math and reading or those who are excelling in school and want to be pushed to the next level. Clients who have an ADD/ADHD, Autism, Aspergers, Dyslexia or a speech and language diagnosis will also make huge changes while enrolled in one of our customized programs.
