Renee completed her Masters degree in Communication Disorders at the University of Texas at Dallas in 1998. She is a certified Speech-Language Pathologist in the state of California and nationally certified through the American Speech and Hearing Association (ASHA). Renee moved to California to complete her Clinical Fellowship at the San Francisco Hearing and Speech Center. She has practiced for the last 18 years in a variety of settings including: private and public schools, clinics, and as a provider of home-based early intervention services.  Renee enjoys working with children of all ages with a special interest in early intervention (0-3) and in preschool speech, language and literacy development. She is currently pursuing her certification in Orofacial Myology. Renee founded Care2talk to provide a greater range of speech and language services for children, their parents, care providers and teachers in the Bay Area.

Each client's progress is monitored and guided by our staff and used with individuals from ages 5 years and older and also used with individuals with learning disabilities, dyslexia, autism, head injuries and hearing impairment. Mind Power Program: aims to restore impaired cognitive functioning of individuals with attention deficit, memory deficits, learning disability or brain injury. Cogmed: a computer-based program that addresses working memory, ability to recall and use information needed to accomplish a task. Earobics: a computer program which provides comprehensive training in auditory processing and related listening and reading skills. FastForWord: a computer program which, assists people to distinguish and process rapidly changing acoustic elements of speech at the rate needed for speech, language, listening and reading development. Interactive Metronome Program (IM): a computer program which provides a focused and systematic way to exercise motor planning and sequencing capacities. Learning Ears: an advanced auditory stimulation and training program, which incorporates a therapeutic listening program and specific work in ear-voice training. NeuroNet: a learning readiness program that helps students become independent learners and designed to help students develop fluency in essential reading, math, and handwriting skills. NNet programs center around 4 Key Concepts: 1. Watch and learn, then think and do. 2. Develop fluency in early reading, handwriting, and math skills. Learn to use what you know to enhance new learning. 3. Get your brain to practice what you want your brain to learn: To develop fluency, you must practice fluency. 4. Learn to self-evaluate. Center for Communication and Learning Skills offers each client a welcoming, comfortable, positive and growth-oriented environment. We diagnosis and treat pediatric dyslexia, speech and language disorders. Sessions are available in person or via zoom. Sessions are timed and tailored to your child’s specific needs. We accept Gardiner Scholarships and work with many homeschool families and private school students. Our dyslexia therapy is based on Orton Gillingham principles utilizing both OG and Lips systems to create the most effective unique therapy plan for your child. There is much overlap between literacy and language disorders and many clients benefit from a combined therapy plan addressing them simultaneously. Services: ** TELETHERAPY AVAILABLE ** LSVT-LOUD (Speech treatment for Parkinson's Disease patients):We provide evaluation and treatment for Parkinson’s Disease related communication deficits. Parkinson’s Disease and other neurological deficits often cause faulty feedback to the brain which can result in communication that is too soft, mumbled, monotone or hoarse. Because of this, patients with Parkinson's Disease can often be difficult to understand. Our LSVT-LOUD treatment teaches Parkinson’s Disease patients techniques to improve their communication ability and perception of appropriate loudness. Dysphagia – Patients with dysphagia have difficulty swallowing and may experience pain while swallowing, making it difficult to eat. Dysphagia is caused by weak muscles in the mouth and throat and is often a result of a stroke, multiple sclerosis, Parkinson’s disease or Alzheimer’s disease. Aphasia – Aphasia causes patients to have difficulty reading, speaking, listening and writing. Aphasia is caused by damage to parts of the brain that are responsible for language. Apraxia – Patients with apraxia have difficulty speaking what he/she wants to speak. Apraxia can occur in two forms. Patients can be born with the disorder or it can develop from a stroke or head injury. Dysarthria – Patients with dysarthria may have slurred speech, a slow or rapid rate of speech, abnormal rhythm when speaking or difficulty chewing and swallowing. Dysarthria can develop from a stroke or head injury. Stuttering – Stuttering is a communication disorder that causes difficulty in fluency of speech. This includes involuntary repetitions of words, parts of words or sounds. Stuttering is also referred to as stammering. Dementia – Dementia is related to memory loss. A speech-language pathologist can help patients with dementia by using strategies to help preserve communications and cognitive function.

Welcome to MarvelMyo & Speech! I am the owner, Katelyn Spencer, M.S., CCC-SLP, AOMT-C, and look forward to meeting you. I started MarvelMyo & Speech after being a speech therapist in the school system and seeing how little our kids were being given appropriate services and the lack of progress compelled me to want to help families with navigating the overwhelming space that is of seeing specialists. I personally have dealt with breathing, sleep, speech and feeding issues and have experienced the frustrations of trying to address root cause for why my pains were evident. I chose the word MARVEL to represent my office because I want patients to know that they are getting the utmost of care. I am married to my sweet husband and we have a boston terrier named Mahomie of whom was given the namesake after none other than Patrick Mahomes of the Chiefs! I absolutely love baking and playing word games (your typical speech therapist appreciations)! I am a board certified Speech-Language Pathologist, Feeding Specialist, and Certified Oromyofunctional Therapist through the Academy of Orofacial Myofunctional Therapy. I am a four-time award American Speech-Language Hearing Association winner for continued education beyond 200 hours. I hold my Clinical Certification of Competence through the American Speech-Language and Hearing Association and am a licensed and registered member of the Texas Speech-Language and Hearing Association.
