Because of this, patients with Parkinson's Disease can often be difficult to understand. Our LSVT-LOUD treatment teaches Parkinson’s Disease patients techniques to improve their communication ability and perception of appropriate loudness. Dysphagia – Patients with dysphagia have difficulty swallowing and may experience pain while swallowing, making it difficult to eat. Dysphagia is caused by weak muscles in the mouth and throat and is often a result of a stroke, multiple sclerosis, Parkinson’s disease or Alzheimer’s disease. Aphasia – Aphasia causes patients to have difficulty reading, speaking, listening and writing. Aphasia is caused by damage to parts of the brain that are responsible for language. Apraxia – Patients with apraxia have difficulty speaking what he/she wants to speak. Apraxia can occur in two forms. Patients can be born with the disorder or it can develop from a stroke or head injury. Dysarthria – Patients with dysarthria may have slurred speech, a slow or rapid rate of speech, abnormal rhythm when speaking or difficulty chewing and swallowing. Dysarthria can develop from a stroke or head injury. Stuttering – Stuttering is a communication disorder that causes difficulty in fluency of speech. This includes involuntary repetitions of words, parts of words or sounds. Stuttering is also referred to as stammering. Dementia – Dementia is related to memory loss. A speech-language pathologist can help patients with dementia by using strategies to help preserve communications and cognitive function.

Katie has been qualified and practising as a paediatric Speech and Language Therapist since 1999. She has a broad range and depth of experience from her work in Community clinics, Schools and Nurseries, Pre-school Language Units, Locum therapy work and an exciting project being employed by 12 Mainstream Schools to oversee the staff delivering the therapy. Katie started her independent practise in 2007, alongside NHS work in Brighton and then in Cambridge. Since then Katie relocated to Olney and has worked in Cambridgeshire, Northamptonshire and Buckinghamshire. I received my Master of Science degree in Communication Disorders in 2005 from Western Kentucky University, where I was a member of the Gamma Beta Phi Honor Society (GPA in top 20% of my class). I am certified by the American Speech-Language Hearing Association (ASHA), licensed by the State of Georgia, a member of the Georgia Speech-Language Hearing Association (GSHA), and a member of the American Academy of Private Practice in Speech Pathology and Audiology. I have worked in the field of Special Education and Speech-Language Pathology since 1999 and have special interests in Childhood Apraxia of Speech (CAS), phonemic awareness, and phonological/articulation disorders.

Lisa is a Speech and Language Pathologist certified by the American Speech and Hearing Association and licensed in Massachusetts. She completed the Masters of Science program at Northeastern University (2002) and has practiced in a variety of settings including nursing homes, schools and others. Her clinical experience consists of diagnosing and treating individuals who present with receptive and expressive language or articulation disorders, developmental delays, autism, accent reduction needs and/or dysfluency. She also has a special interest in creating language inclusive programs for elementary-aged students as well as investigating differentiated memory strategies to support language and literacy. More recently, Lisa has become certified as an assistive technology professional and has vast experiences working with children who are nonverbal. Therapy is conducted via a group or individual session depending on client need.
