Hi there :) I’m Kasha (they/she), and I have been working as a pediatric speech-language pathologist in outpatient and early intervention (home and community based) settings since 2009. I enjoy working with clients and families with complex communication needs and sensory processing differences. I work with families to address functional communication goals from a strengths-based perspective. I strongly believe in presuming competence and helping clients communicate and advocate for themselves more independently. I have experience with trialing and procuring Alternative and Augmentative Communication (AAC) devices to support communication access. Another professional interest is supporting Gestalt Language Processors; Gestalt Language Processors learn to speak in chunks or phrases, using echolalia (repetition of phrases or units of meaning) prior to learning to break up those chunks into single words that may be combined into more traditional grammar. Authentic Communication is a Human Right!

Services: ** TELETHERAPY AVAILABLE ** LSVT-LOUD (Speech treatment for Parkinson's Disease patients):We provide evaluation and treatment for Parkinson’s Disease related communication deficits. Parkinson’s Disease and other neurological deficits often cause faulty feedback to the brain which can result in communication that is too soft, mumbled, monotone or hoarse. Because of this, patients with Parkinson's Disease can often be difficult to understand. Our LSVT-LOUD treatment teaches Parkinson’s Disease patients techniques to improve their communication ability and perception of appropriate loudness. Dysphagia – Patients with dysphagia have difficulty swallowing and may experience pain while swallowing, making it difficult to eat. Dysphagia is caused by weak muscles in the mouth and throat and is often a result of a stroke, multiple sclerosis, Parkinson’s disease or Alzheimer’s disease. Aphasia – Aphasia causes patients to have difficulty reading, speaking, listening and writing. Aphasia is caused by damage to parts of the brain that are responsible for language. Apraxia – Patients with apraxia have difficulty speaking what he/she wants to speak. Apraxia can occur in two forms. Patients can be born with the disorder or it can develop from a stroke or head injury. Dysarthria – Patients with dysarthria may have slurred speech, a slow or rapid rate of speech, abnormal rhythm when speaking or difficulty chewing and swallowing. Dysarthria can develop from a stroke or head injury. Stuttering – Stuttering is a communication disorder that causes difficulty in fluency of speech. This includes involuntary repetitions of words, parts of words or sounds. Stuttering is also referred to as stammering. Dementia – Dementia is related to memory loss. "Play is really the work of childhood." - Mr. Rogers
Play is the foundation for learning through which I instill meaningful connections and foster problem-solving skills. Coupled with a certification in family trauma, my extensive knowledge and expertise in the neurology of play and parent coaching presents itself as a unique opportunity. Through my work with children and families, I focus on a dynamic approach, involving the internal state and external environment. I capture the individuality of the family unit, designing a therapeutic plan to build confidence and empower lasting change. The philosophy of my practice takes a holistic viewpoint to understand the whole child, laying a foundation for future success. I specialize in treating children with autism, attention difficulties, behavior challenges, language learning disabilities and picky eating in a supportive setting. When it comes to feeding, mealtime is truly special. It highlights a child's relationship with food, encouraging exploration, positive role models, and skill proficiency. Nutrition counseling further considers environmental attributes, facilitating education and self-efficacy. I provide parent coaching sessions and work closely with educators and other professionals to increase awareness, ensure consistency, and carryover invaluable tools. My goal is to empower parents and caregivers with strategies and resources. I welcome the child and adult into the therapeutic space because, as partners, we can achieve so much more!

The Speech Niche
Speech Therapy & Accent Reduction/Modification
Parents of children with a speech/articulation concern: -Are you feeling frustrated because you can not understand your child when he speaks? -Is your child also frustrated because he doesn't feel understood and can't clearly express what he wants? -Has another professional told you that your child will outgrow his speech problem, but it doesn't seem to be getting better? -Is your child becoming more withdrawn because he knows he can't say certain words correctly? -Is your child 8 yrs old or older and still can't say R, S, TH, or L words? -Are other kids starting to notice that your child speaks differently? -Do you have to interpret your child's speech to other people? Adults: Do you have a regional or foreign accent that you would like to change? Are you feeling insecure at work or in social situations because of the way you talk? Do you always have to repeat yourself? Do you have difficulties being understood over the phone? Do you shy away from group talks or meetings because of the way you talk? Do you let other people talk for you at work or social gatherings? Do you feel your accent or enunciation skills get in the way at work or in social settings? To my potential clients, if you can relate to any or all of the above, I am here to help. Clear communication is essential to all of our relationships, both personal and professional. You don't necessarily have to be the greatest orator like Winston Churchill or John F. Kennedy. But it would be pretty great to be articulate just like them, but on a smaller scale within your tribe or community. Sessions are via tele-therapy only. I am licensed to practice in Colorado and California. So if you are located in these states, feel free to reach out. I offer free 20 minute consultations and we can chat it up and get those questions answered.
