Our LSVT-LOUD treatment teaches Parkinson’s Disease patients techniques to improve their communication ability and perception of appropriate loudness. Dysphagia – Patients with dysphagia have difficulty swallowing and may experience pain while swallowing, making it difficult to eat. Dysphagia is caused by weak muscles in the mouth and throat and is often a result of a stroke, multiple sclerosis, Parkinson’s disease or Alzheimer’s disease. Aphasia – Aphasia causes patients to have difficulty reading, speaking, listening and writing. Aphasia is caused by damage to parts of the brain that are responsible for language. Apraxia – Patients with apraxia have difficulty speaking what he/she wants to speak. Apraxia can occur in two forms. Patients can be born with the disorder or it can develop from a stroke or head injury. Dysarthria – Patients with dysarthria may have slurred speech, a slow or rapid rate of speech, abnormal rhythm when speaking or difficulty chewing and swallowing. Dysarthria can develop from a stroke or head injury. Stuttering – Stuttering is a communication disorder that causes difficulty in fluency of speech. This includes involuntary repetitions of words, parts of words or sounds. Stuttering is also referred to as stammering. Dementia – Dementia is related to memory loss. Speech & Swallowing Therapy
We solve communication puzzles
My name is Mark Higginson. My wife and I are both speech therapists, and natives of Tucson, Arizona (and our office is right by an Eegees!). We both became speech therapists because of our enthusiasm for studying language and love of helping other people. Given the vital role communication plays in our enjoyment and success in life, what better way to help others than to strengthen or rebuild communication abilities? It's what we love to do! We thrive off of seeing our clients make progress and meet their personal communication goals. Having worked in various medical settings, we decided to begin our own private clinic in order to "do things our own way," i.e. give ourselves the freedom to provide the level of quality service and respect we expect to receive when we go to any medical appointment. We specialize in communication and swallowing disorders related to neurological damage or disease, but treat many other areas too, for both adults and children. We give our patients the time they deserve in therapy, and focus on patient empowerment and independence through thorough education. Bring us your communication puzzles...and we'll solve them together!

As parents are the first teachers of their children and the EXPERTS on their kids, I hold in utmost importance the parents’ or caregivers’ wishes, beliefs, ideas, and goals for the child. Together, we will form a collaborative treatment approach that meets the needs of your child and your family’s lifestyle. I am a speech language pathologist because I love to help children and their parents communicate better together. There are tools and strategies that families can learn and use to improve their communication with one another, and in turn, improve the parent-child relationship. That’s where I come in. I am here to support you and guide you on this journey to helping your child overcome breakdowns in communication. I want you and your child to bond and enjoy each other through your shared communication. Let’s work together to help communication get better.
