Aphasia – Aphasia causes patients to have difficulty reading, speaking, listening and writing. Aphasia is caused by damage to parts of the brain that are responsible for language. Dysarthria – Patients with dysarthria may have slurred speech, a slow or rapid rate of speech, abnormal rhythm when speaking or difficulty chewing and swallowing. This includes involuntary repetitions of words, parts of words or sounds. Stuttering is also referred to as stammering. Dementia – Dementia is related to memory loss. Empowering and coaching parents is an extraordinary boost in the success of each client. STOP provides individualized therapy based on each client's communication disorder and therapy goals. Therapy is typically a 30-45 minute session 1 or 2 times per week targeting up to 5 goals based on results of evaluation. Duration of therapy is dependent on patient’s progress on goals and follow through on home program materials. Each client is different and the duration of treatment cannot be predicted. Dismissal from therapy is based on client progress and mastery of skill potential. Therapy can also be conducted in a group setting when appropriate.
