Neurofeedback is direct training of brain function, by which the brain learns to function more efficiently. We observe the brain in action from moment to moment. We show that information back to the person. And we reward the brain for changing its own activity to more appropriate patterns. This is a gradual learning process. It applies to any aspect of brain function that we can measure. Neurofeedback is also called EEG Biofeedback, because it is based on electrical brain activity, the electroencephalogram, or EEG. Neurofeedback is training in self-regulation. It is simply biofeedback applied to the brain directly. Self-regulation is a necessary part of good brain function. Self-regulation training allows the system (the central nervous system) to function better. Neurofeedback addresses problems of brain dis-regulation. The Speech Niche
Speech Therapy & Accent Reduction/Modification
Parents of children with a speech/articulation concern: -Are you feeling frustrated because you can not understand your child when he speaks? -Is your child also frustrated because he doesn't feel understood and can't clearly express what he wants? -Has another professional told you that your child will outgrow his speech problem, but it doesn't seem to be getting better? -Is your child becoming more withdrawn because he knows he can't say certain words correctly? -Is your child 8 yrs old or older and still can't say R, S, TH, or L words? -Are other kids starting to notice that your child speaks differently? -Do you have to interpret your child's speech to other people? Adults: Do you have a regional or foreign accent that you would like to change? Are you feeling insecure at work or in social situations because of the way you talk? Do you always have to repeat yourself? Do you have difficulties being understood over the phone? Do you shy away from group talks or meetings because of the way you talk? Do you let other people talk for you at work or social gatherings? Do you feel your accent or enunciation skills get in the way at work or in social settings? To my potential clients, if you can relate to any or all of the above, I am here to help. Clear communication is essential to all of our relationships, both personal and professional. You don't necessarily have to be the greatest orator like Winston Churchill or John F. Kennedy. But it would be pretty great to be articulate just like them, but on a smaller scale within your tribe or community. Sessions are via tele-therapy only. I am licensed to practice in Colorado and California. So if you are located in these states, feel free to reach out. I offer free 20 minute consultations and we can chat it up and get those questions answered.

Karah Smith Smith Therapy
Speech-Language Pathologist
Portland, OR 97210
Speech-Language Pathologist
In-home speech therapy services in the NW/SW Portland and Beaverton areas for children and adults. Customized social-communication groups, blending yoga and speech therapy. I gradually started adding yoga breathing techniques into my treatments with my speech therapy clients in 2012. I was helping my patients create a calm space, a moment to connect with themselves. I was also offering other therapeutic benefits such as better breath support for speech and vocal amplitude. As my career shifted to also include an education focus, I found new therapeutic implications of blending yoga and speech therapy. I began working with preschoolers, incorporating short yoga sequences merging movement with the sounds and vocabulary they needed to learn. I found that yoga movements and guided relaxations, known to my students as 'magic carpet rides' helped the overall energy of my therapy groups. I'd be happy to chat with you to see if I can help you or your loved one!
