Our LSVT-LOUD treatment teaches Parkinson’s Disease patients techniques to improve their communication ability and perception of appropriate loudness. Dysphagia – Patients with dysphagia have difficulty swallowing and may experience pain while swallowing, making it difficult to eat. Dysphagia is caused by weak muscles in the mouth and throat and is often a result of a stroke, multiple sclerosis, Parkinson’s disease or Alzheimer’s disease. Aphasia – Aphasia causes patients to have difficulty reading, speaking, listening and writing. Aphasia is caused by damage to parts of the brain that are responsible for language. Apraxia – Patients with apraxia have difficulty speaking what he/she wants to speak. Apraxia can occur in two forms. Patients can be born with the disorder or it can develop from a stroke or head injury. Dysarthria – Patients with dysarthria may have slurred speech, a slow or rapid rate of speech, abnormal rhythm when speaking or difficulty chewing and swallowing. Dysarthria can develop from a stroke or head injury. Stuttering – Stuttering is a communication disorder that causes difficulty in fluency of speech. This includes involuntary repetitions of words, parts of words or sounds. Stuttering is also referred to as stammering. Dementia – Dementia is related to memory loss. A speech-language pathologist can help patients with dementia by using strategies to help preserve communications and cognitive function.

Specializing in Pediatric Speech Language Pathology, I work with children and their families to help my clients improve their communication skills. This includes their ability to both understand language, and express themselves, produce the speech sounds needed to speak clearly, and improve their social interaction skills. I work with young children (18 months-4 years) who are beginning to develop their speech and language skills, as well as school age children, who often work on skills such as understanding what they read, and improving writing skills as it applies to their schoolwork. I completed my M.S. at Teachers College, Columbia University. Through this program I earned my Teacher of Speech and Hearing Handicapped (TSHH) certification. I also hold a NYS License for Speech-Language Pathology, ASHA Certification (CCC), and I am PROMPT trained with the bridging course, and frequently work with children with apraxia/motor-speech disorders. For 14 years, I have been treating communicative disorders in EI, preschool, and elementary school-aged children and young adults.
