The Intensive Stuttering Therapy Program replaces your stuttered speech with a new way of talking which is incompatible with stuttering. We begin with two hours of therapy in the clinic for five consecutive days. You start this with a very slow rate of speaking during which you don't stutter from the first day of therapy. We use the Delayed Auditory Feedback (DAF) machine to help you control your speech rate. Gradually the rate is increased until it approximates normal speaking. At this point we take you off the machine and you produce stutter-reduction speech in the clinic for short periods of talking. During the last part of the program you transfer this stutter-reduction speech into speaking situations outside the clinic and at home starting with very easy speaking situations and short periods of talking and gradually moving to more difficult situations until you can talk stutter-reduction all day long. This part of the program is completed at home and is monitored by weekly phone calls with the client. Success depends upon this carefully managed follow-up program which involves at least one year of daily speaking practice. Progress is monitored by weekly phone calls from the therapist.

A general outline of services is listed, although is not limited to the following: *Swallowing disorders (dysphagia) are diagnosed and intervention is provided to: determine the safest diet level through guarded trials and diet adjustment, create home exercises to regain function, train and educate the client and caregivers in safe swallow practices/strategies and meal preparation, with the overall goal of reducing aspiration risk with the least restrictive diet. *Speech, language, and voice disorders are evaluated and treatment is given for dysarthria, apraxia, expressive and receptive aphasia, and voice difficulties due to neurologic involvement or head and neck surgery. Reading and writing deficits are also targeted for intervention, and augmentative and alternative communication devices created or recommended (low or high tech) for nonverbal patients, as well as training in use of voice prosthesis if appropriate. *Cognitive impairments including memory loss, problem solving/ reasoning, planning, orientation, and thought organization are evaluated and treatment is provided. I started MarvelMyo & Speech after being a speech therapist in the school system and seeing how little our kids were being given appropriate services and the lack of progress compelled me to want to help families with navigating the overwhelming space that is of seeing specialists. I personally have dealt with breathing, sleep, speech and feeding issues and have experienced the frustrations of trying to address root cause for why my pains were evident. I chose the word MARVEL to represent my office because I want patients to know that they are getting the utmost of care. I am married to my sweet husband and we have a boston terrier named Mahomie of whom was given the namesake after none other than Patrick Mahomes of the Chiefs! I absolutely love baking and playing word games (your typical speech therapist appreciations)! I am a board certified Speech-Language Pathologist, Feeding Specialist, and Certified Oromyofunctional Therapist through the Academy of Orofacial Myofunctional Therapy. I am a four-time award American Speech-Language Hearing Association winner for continued education beyond 200 hours. I hold my Clinical Certification of Competence through the American Speech-Language and Hearing Association and am a licensed and registered member of the Texas Speech-Language and Hearing Association. She has also taken coursework through the International Association of Oromyofunctional Therapy (IAOM), The Breathe Institute with Sarah Hornsby, Orofacial Myology Training for Sandra Holtzman (QOM certification track), SimonSaysSpeech, and the Chrysalis TOTS training to address oromyofunctional disorders and how to recognize tongue/lip/cheek tethers. She is on-track to become a Certified Lactation Consultant (CLC) through the Center for Breastfeeding. Katelyn is also trained in Augmentative and Alternative Communication devices (AAC) such as switches, Dynavox, Proloquo2Go app on the iPad, and the Picture Exchange Communication System (PECS). Katelyn has a passion for all patients to reach their full potential in life, with speech and language, feeding, and with their overall health. Speech disorders include: * Articulation disorders: Difficulties producing sounds in syllables or saying words incorrectly to the point that listeners can't understand what's being said. * Phonological disorders: Difficulties in speech sound patterns. * Fluency disorders: Problems such as stuttering, in which the flow of speech is interrupted by abnormal stoppages, repetitions (st-st-stuttering), or prolonging sounds and syllables (ssssstuttering). * Resonance or voice disorders: Problems with the pitch, volume, or quality of the voice that distract listeners from what's being said. * Motor speech disorders such as Apraxia of Speech (AOS): Difficulties saying what is wanted to say correctly and consistently. * Language disorders can be either receptive or expressive: * Receptive disorders: Difficulties understanding or processing language. * Expressive disorders: Difficulty putting words together, limited vocabulary, or inability to use language in a socially appropriate way. Pragmatic/social aspects of communication: Difficulties using language, changing language and following conversational rules. * Dysphagia/oral feeding disorders: These include difficulties with drooling, eating, and swallowing. * Cognitive aspects of communication: Difficulties with attention, memory, problem solving and executive functions. Tia worked in various settings leading speech and language therapy groups, facilitating and training staff in using augmentative and alternative communication devices in the classroom and collaborated and participated in co-treatment sessions with Special Education Teachers, Occupational Therapists, Physical Therapists, and Floortime Specialists, while using Floor Time (DIR Model). She also developed and implemented Individualized Education Programs for each child in her caseload. She is now in private practice in Stevenson Ranch, providing consultations, home, school, and clinic based interventions.
