Neurofeedback is direct training of brain function, by which the brain learns to function more efficiently. We observe the brain in action from moment to moment. We show that information back to the person. And we reward the brain for changing its own activity to more appropriate patterns. This is a gradual learning process. It applies to any aspect of brain function that we can measure. Neurofeedback is also called EEG Biofeedback, because it is based on electrical brain activity, the electroencephalogram, or EEG. Neurofeedback is training in self-regulation. It is simply biofeedback applied to the brain directly. Self-regulation is a necessary part of good brain function. Self-regulation training allows the system (the central nervous system) to function better. Neurofeedback addresses problems of brain dis-regulation. Services: ** TELETHERAPY AVAILABLE ** LSVT-LOUD (Speech treatment for Parkinson's Disease patients):We provide evaluation and treatment for Parkinson’s Disease related communication deficits. Parkinson’s Disease and other neurological deficits often cause faulty feedback to the brain which can result in communication that is too soft, mumbled, monotone or hoarse. Because of this, patients with Parkinson's Disease can often be difficult to understand. Our LSVT-LOUD treatment teaches Parkinson’s Disease patients techniques to improve their communication ability and perception of appropriate loudness. Dysphagia – Patients with dysphagia have difficulty swallowing and may experience pain while swallowing, making it difficult to eat. Dysphagia is caused by weak muscles in the mouth and throat and is often a result of a stroke, multiple sclerosis, Parkinson’s disease or Alzheimer’s disease. Aphasia – Aphasia causes patients to have difficulty reading, speaking, listening and writing. Aphasia is caused by damage to parts of the brain that are responsible for language. Apraxia – Patients with apraxia have difficulty speaking what he/she wants to speak. Apraxia can occur in two forms. Patients can be born with the disorder or it can develop from a stroke or head injury. Dysarthria – Patients with dysarthria may have slurred speech, a slow or rapid rate of speech, abnormal rhythm when speaking or difficulty chewing and swallowing. Dysarthria can develop from a stroke or head injury. Stuttering – Stuttering is a communication disorder that causes difficulty in fluency of speech. This includes involuntary repetitions of words, parts of words or sounds. Stuttering is also referred to as stammering. Dementia – Dementia is related to memory loss. Speech & Swallowing Therapy at Home or Online
After 7 years working with adults in skilled nursing and rehab facilities, Louisiana Teletherapy was created by a passionate Speech Language Pathologist to focus on serving a high-need population who tends to be underserved in our area. We focus on treating adults facing speech, language, and swallowing difficulties due to Parkinson's Disease, Stroke, Alzheimer's Disease, Traumatic Brain Injury, ALS, and other associated neurological impairments. Rather than having to coordinate transportation to a clinic and being limited to the 4 walls of an office space, we meet you where you spend some of your most important time communicating - at your home! We travel to clients' homes in the Greater Baton Rouge and New Orleans areas for in-depth evaluations and treatment. If you are in another part of central/south Louisiana, don't hesitate to reach out. We may be able to reach your area as well. Teletherapy is offered in these areas as well as the entire state of Louisiana. We work with a hybrid-model of in-person and online therapy to ensure you are making the most of your therapy time and to troubleshoot any technical questions about connecting. We accept Medicare B, United Healthcare, and offer Private Pay options. More insurance coverage will be added in the future, so contact us with any needs you may have!
