I gradually started adding yoga breathing techniques into my treatments with my speech therapy clients in 2012. I was helping my patients create a calm space, a moment to connect with themselves. I was also offering other therapeutic benefits such as better breath support for speech and vocal amplitude. As my career shifted to also include an education focus, I found new therapeutic implications of blending yoga and speech therapy. I began working with preschoolers, incorporating short yoga sequences merging movement with the sounds and vocabulary they needed to learn. I found that yoga movements and guided relaxations, known to my students as 'magic carpet rides' helped the overall energy of my therapy groups.
