My client base is primarily comprised of adults who have survived strokes and brain trauma, or those suffering from neurodegenerative diseases such as Parkinsons and all types of dementia, as well as head and neck cancer. Individuals with other impairments are also seen. A general outline of services is listed, although is not limited to the following: *Swallowing disorders (dysphagia) are diagnosed and intervention is provided to: determine the safest diet level through guarded trials and diet adjustment, create home exercises to regain function, train and educate the client and caregivers in safe swallow practices/strategies and meal preparation, with the overall goal of reducing aspiration risk with the least restrictive diet. *Speech, language, and voice disorders are evaluated and treatment is given for dysarthria, apraxia, expressive and receptive aphasia, and voice difficulties due to neurologic involvement or head and neck surgery. Reading and writing deficits are also targeted for intervention, and augmentative and alternative communication devices created or recommended (low or high tech) for nonverbal patients, as well as training in use of voice prosthesis if appropriate. *Cognitive impairments including memory loss, problem solving/ reasoning, planning, orientation, and thought organization are evaluated and treatment is provided. Adaptive and environmental aids are created and patients and caregivers are trained in their use, such as memory books for those with Alzheimer's or other neurologic difficulties. *Hearing and visual impairments are addressed either in isolation or in conjunction with other deficits and patients and caregivers are assisted in obtaining and utilizing adaptive aids such as amplification devices, phones with special features, large print materials, or referrals are made to appropriate community resources. My treatment focuses on an individual's functional needs and abilities. Sessions are tailored to promote the best quality of life with the most realistic and attainable goals. I am compassionate and caring while having the flexibiltiy to adjust my intervention to address special issues as they arise. Counseling is provided for emotional adjustment to disability as needed using an intuitive and trusting approach. My goal with patients is to have them participate in their lives at the highest level possible with optimal success.

Susan is the founder of Summit Speech Services. She has been a speech language pathologist for over 25 years. Susan has worked with children and young adults privately, in the clinic, and in the private/public school settings. Her areas of expertise include: preschool language, speech sounds disorders, language delays/disorders, fluency/stuttering, social communication, and educating families on speech language issues. I feel privileged to have had the experience of working with many different individuals, families, and professionals across a variety of settings, over the years. Ideal Speech provides speech therapy in your home or daycare in Clay, Duval, and St. John's counties. Our SLP has over 16 years of experience working with children and adults with a variety of speech and language disorders. Our schedule is flexible, and we do not have a waiting list. We also provide free screenings for daycares and preschools with more than 5 children to be screened. Please contact us with any questions. In Home Speech and Language Therapy: Speech and/or language therapy provided in your home In-Daycare Speech and Language Therapy: Speech and/or language therapy in your child’s daycare Daycare permission is required. The majority of daycares welcome having an SLP at their facility. In Home Speech and/or Language Evaluations: Speech and language evaluations are completed in your home or daycare which allows us to see your child in their natural environment. If you have a recent evaluation or IEP and can provide a copy, a new evaluation is not required in most cases. Speech and/or Language screenings: We provide 10-15 minute screenings to determine if a further evaluation is needed. If an evaluation is needed, the cost of the screening can be applied to the evaluation. Screenings are completed in your home or your child’s daycare. In Home Occupational Therapy: Occupational therapy provided in your home In-Daycare OccupationalTherapy: Occupational therapy in your child’s daycare Daycare permission is required. Speech disorders include: * Articulation disorders: Difficulties producing sounds in syllables or saying words incorrectly to the point that listeners can't understand what's being said. * Phonological disorders: Difficulties in speech sound patterns. * Fluency disorders: Problems such as stuttering, in which the flow of speech is interrupted by abnormal stoppages, repetitions (st-st-stuttering), or prolonging sounds and syllables (ssssstuttering). * Resonance or voice disorders: Problems with the pitch, volume, or quality of the voice that distract listeners from what's being said. * Motor speech disorders such as Apraxia of Speech (AOS): Difficulties saying what is wanted to say correctly and consistently. * Language disorders can be either receptive or expressive: * Receptive disorders: Difficulties understanding or processing language. * Expressive disorders: Difficulty putting words together, limited vocabulary, or inability to use language in a socially appropriate way. Pragmatic/social aspects of communication: Difficulties using language, changing language and following conversational rules. * Dysphagia/oral feeding disorders: These include difficulties with drooling, eating, and swallowing. * Cognitive aspects of communication: Difficulties with attention, memory, problem solving and executive functions. Tia worked in various settings leading speech and language therapy groups, facilitating and training staff in using augmentative and alternative communication devices in the classroom and collaborated and participated in co-treatment sessions with Special Education Teachers, Occupational Therapists, Physical Therapists, and Floortime Specialists, while using Floor Time (DIR Model). She also developed and implemented Individualized Education Programs for each child in her caseload. She is now in private practice in Stevenson Ranch, providing consultations, home, school, and clinic based interventions. Tia’s love of children shines through in her dedication and passion to enriching their lives, as well as the lives of their family. Tia received a B.A. and a M.S. in Communicative Disorders from California State University, Northridge.

We are a multidisciplinary practice offering speech therapy, feeding therapy, mental health counseling, and occupational therapy to children ages 0 through 21 years. We are located in Sudbury, Massachusetts and service the Boston MetroWest communities.
